On March 22, 2019, Renaissance Speakers’ (and Club Co-Founder) Roberta Perry won the 1st Place trophy in the Area D40 Table Topics Contest.
In the Table Topics contest, all contestants receive the same question, which is of a general nature. The contestants stay out of the room until the preceding speaker has completed his or her response to the question. Speeches shall be from one minute to two minutes. A panel of judges picks the winner.
This year’s Table Topics question reflected the popularity of superhero movies: “If you could have one super power, what would it be and what would you use it for?”
Roberta showed no hesitation with her response, having the experience of being a past International Director in Toastmasters and a lifelong ambassador of the organization’s mission: To help people become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders.
In her usual polished and professional manner, Roberta spoke about having the ability to spread the value of Toastmasters around the world, beyond the 140 + countries where it already succeeds, to the ends of the earth. “No guts, no galaxy!” she concluded with a smile.
Roberta will now compete in the Division contest on April 10 at 7:00 pm at the LAUSD building in downtown Los Angeles.
