This Sunday, January 15, we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday. Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday, which honors Dr. King’s life and achievements as an influential American civil rights leader.
“I Have a Dream” was a speech delivered by Revered King during the “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom” on August 28, 1963. In the speech, King called for civil and economic rights and an end to racism in the United States.
On that day, more than 250,000 demonstrators descended upon the nation’s capital. Not only was it the largest demonstration for human rights in United States history, but it also brought about a rare display of unity among the various civil rights organizations.
