Not only did our club prevail at the contests, they kept it in the family!
That’s right. Susan Stewart won the Table Topics Contest while hubby Richard Stewart earned the 1st place trophy in the International Speech Contest in District 100 Area 3 Contests last Saturday.
Even though this was a virtual competition (as all Toastmasters contests will be this year), the enthusiastic response from the audience confirmed that the judges made the right choices.
In Table Topics, Susan was given the question, “What have you learned during this pandemic that is essential for everyone moving forward?” Susan’s response resonated with everyone when she described the importance of communication, especially during these times. For example, Susan has relatives all over the country and she never neglects connecting with her grandkids via Zoom.
The International Speech Contest followed with Richard, the winner of many Toastmaster contests in prior years, taking the gold medal. His speech entitled “A Priceless Gift,” focused on another consequence of the pandemic: Because of the widespread use of face masks, your smile can’t be seen! Don’t forget this priceless gift you have. Give it away, anyway you can and wherever you can, despite the mask. Of course, Richard gave several examples to drive the message home.
The winning Stewarts now move on to the District 100 Division Contests scheduled for Saturday, March 27, 2021. The time and Zoom link will be announced on our Facebook page:
