News: Renaissance Speakers Sweep Area Contests!

Renaissance Speakers President Serena McCullough (center) introduces the winners, Erin Godley and John Liebling, at a recent club meeting.

Erin Godley and John Liebling won first place in their respective Area contests on Saturday, March 5, 2017.

Every year, the Toastmaster speech contests begin at the club level and culminate at the local District Conference. The International Speech Contest is the only Toastmaster speech contest that proceeds past the club and local Area, Division, and District and proceeds to the International Convention where the winner is awarded the title “World Champion of Public Speaking.” It is truly an international affair as competitors from Toastmasters clubs from all over the world enter this contest.

Erin took the next step in that journey by taking the top prize in the Area F62 International Speech Contest by delivering an impassioned speech about “My Best Friend.” Erin, who is an Advanced Communicator Bronze, is also the club’s current Treasurer.

The Table Topics contest challenged the best of the Area’s impromptu speakers to come up with the best answer to the secret question. John, an Advanced Communicator Silver and Competent Leader, certainly accomplished that and was awarded the first place trophy.

Both Erin and John will now compete at the next level: The District 52 Division F Contest scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Kaiser Permanente Panorama City. Stay tuned for further details.
