Sarah Khan and Roberta Perry were the winners in the annual Renaissance Speakers “International Speech” and “Table Topics” (impromptu speaking) Contests which took place on February 23. This year, there was a record seven contestants competing for the top prize in each contest!
Contest Chair Mike Baron organized the entire event with the help of assistant Bill Moon. The contest Toastmaster, Ray Korns, an able veteran of such affairs, hosted the contests with aplomb. All the available and non-competing club members in the audience performed the duties of voting judges (after being briefed by Chief Judge Jeff Harman).
Every year, the various Toastmaster speech contests begin at the club level and culminate at the local District Conference. The International Speech Contest is the only Toastmaster speech contest that proceeds past our club and local area to continue at the International Convention where the winner is awarded the title “World Champion of Public Speaking.” It is truly an international affair as competitors from Toastmasters clubs from all over the world enter this contest.
