News: First Social Media Workshop Training

Today, about 25 attendees participated in the first RENAISSANCE SPEAKERS SOCIAL MEDIA WORKSHOP TRAINING.

In addition to the “hot” information which resulted in a fire drill and a temporary interruption of the workshop, the following are some of the key points that were covered:

  • Social Media” is about Internet technologies that enable anyone to publish their own information and/or contribute to a two-way flow of communication.  (In contrast to older, conventional websites which are like online brochures and only feature a one-way flow of communication).
  • Blogs are a fundamental component of the Social Media landscape, and make it easy for ANYONE (including you) to publish their own “content” which includes written words, photos, audio and/or video.
  • The new RenaissanceSpeakers.org website is being built using free WordPress.org software, which provides great flexibility in website development as well as providing a blog that allows any interested Renaissance Speakers to publish their own speeches, public speaking articles, news, successes, etc. (Visit the following link for information on the two types of WordPress platforms).
  • This is the first in a series of workshops, which are provided by myself as a Renaissance Speakers public service.  It is hoped that, in the future, those who participate in this training (“Renaissance Speakers Social Media Members”), will help any other Renaissance Speaker club members who wish to publish their own speeches to this site, but were not able to attend the training.
